And that's what gives you your resolution.

There are three common types of tv's you will come across when you are buying they are.

Standard definition (576i). the res of a standard definition tv or (SD tv ) is about 720x576. so what that means is that there are 720 pixels going horizontally across the screen and 576 pixels vertically up and down the screen. The name that they call it is 576 interlace or (576i).
I will go into more detail about interlace with tvs in a later blog.

High definition (1080i or 720p). When it comes to High Definition's tv's (HD Tv's) the resolution is larger so meaning more pixels. There are two resolutions you will come across being 1024x768 which is what HD Plasma screens have and the other is 1366x768 and you will find that in HD LCD tv.s or Liquid Crystal Displays. even though the pixel count is diffrent they are still called High definition or 1080i or 720p which stand for progressive scan but i will go in to that in my next blog.

Full High Definition (1080p) Of all current day lcd and plasma be it the new 3D screen or normal tv's on the marked the best resolution is Full HD 1920x1080 or 1080p. so to brake it down again you will get 1920 lines horizontally and 1080 lines Vertically. there will be higher res screen coming out over the next few years but we will just worry about the tv's on the market here today.

Standard Definition 720x576 resolution , 576 interlace (576i)

High Definition 1024x768 or 1366x768 resolution, (1080i or 720p)

Full High Definition 1920x1080 resolution, (1080p)

I will go in to more detail in my next blog to explain interlace and progressive scan.
